About NUSRL Ranchi
National University of Study and Research in Law, Ranchi (NUSRL) was established by Act No. 4 of Jharkhand State Assembly in 2010. The University has subsequently been recognized by University Grants Commission (UGC) in September 2011 u/s 22, u/s 12B in the year 2018 of the UGC Act of 1956 and Bar Council of India (BCI). The University started functioning in September 2010.
About the Competition
The Kautilya Society, NUSRL Ranchi, in collaboration with Polytrics – The Public Policy & Governance Club of IIM Ranchi, is set to host Vidhan 2025 – The Policy Triathlon, an exciting competition where students engage in live policy formulation to tackle real-world governance challenges. The event is supported by the Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy and Association for Democratic Reforms (ADR) as the Knowledge Partner, bringing together legal, policy, and governance experts to foster critical inquiry and participative democracy.
Vidhan 2025 is a unique policy triathlon designed to challenge participants in policy drafting, analytical reasoning, and real-world problem-solving. Hosted by leading institutions in management and legal education, the event provides an opportunity for students to engage with academic rigor and policy innovation while addressing pressing governance issues.
Competition Structure
The three pillars of Vidhan 2025 ensure a comprehensive test of policy acumen:
- Position Paper Submission – Develop structured, evidence-based policy arguments.
- Policy Mastermind Quiz – Test awareness of governance, economics, and democratic reforms.
- Live Policy Hackathon – Collaborate on actionable solutions for policy challenges.
Competition Guidelines
1. Position Paper Submission (Preliminary Round – Online)
Word Limit: 250–300 words (excluding references)
Topics:
- Universal Basic Income (UBI): Can unconditional cash transfers reduce inequality without fiscal strain?
- Caste-Based Reservations in the Private Sector: Balancing equity vs. meritocracy.
- Nationwide Social Media Regulation: Addressing misinformation vs. free speech.
Submission Requirements
- Structured argument with a clear stance (for/against)
- Times New Roman, Size 12, 1.5-line spacing
- No hyperlinks; file name format: TeamName.pdf
Evaluation Criteria: Clarity, argument strength, research depth, and conciseness.
2. Policy Mastermind Quiz
Date: 9th March 2025
Venue: IIM Ranchi Campus
Format:
- Preliminary Round: 20–30 one-word/MCQ questions (paper-based)
- Stage Rounds: Buzzer rounds, case-study debates, and audio-visual identification
Themes: Electoral transparency, governance metrics, and ADR’s core research areas.
3. Live Policy Hackathon
Date: 9th March 2025
Venue: IIM Ranchi Campus
Focus Areas: Voter engagement, bureaucratic efficiency, digital governance, and legal innovations.
The policy problem will be curated by Vidhi Centre for Legal Policy.
